Ask HN: How would you go about domain change and getting a job in the domain?
I have a couple of years of experience with full-stack development (JS/TS, PY, Java), and I've always wanted dive deep into how databases work and how they are built. With LLMs as a teacher, I have been making steady progress in how systems work and how databases work. I am also gaining experience with C++ and Rust. (I can't just code from memory yet, and have to refer to Google for the syntax and then LLMs to learn a better way). Now, coming to switching domains, I am not sure how
Ask HN: Do you want a router that has DD-WRT pre-installed?
I sometimes run across comments where someone says they want an open-source router. I wonder if this is a viable idea for someone to start as a small company. What makes me hesitant is that, first, it looks like this already exists in several wireless and non-wireless routers (like the GL.iNet Flint or OpenWrt One), and second, I assume hackers would just make their own.I have been flashing DD-WRT to my routers for many years. My current setup is an Archer C9 that connects via cable to an Archer
Ask HN: Resources for best practices in software development with AI?
What resources (authors, podcasts, books, etc) do you follow to keep up with best practices, patterns, methodologies, for software development with AI?<p>There is so much noise that I want to know a few trusted resources (especially authors) to follow to keep up with latest best practices (an example of an author in what I have in mind would be Simon Willison).
Show HN: Modelship – an open source ray backed model cluster
Hey all, just wanted to share how my spare time has been spent for quite some time now.Ok, this one started oddly. My aim initially was just to serve multiple models on one GPU and fire it up in my unraid machine.By the time that first bit was done, I realised I could just add one more thing... and another... and well, from beginning of this year when, imho, AI became useful, the whole thing it kind of blew up.So here's what it does:- spins a ray cluster- deploys models using various loader
Show HN: Aporium – A UMAP galaxy of 5800 philosophy excerpts in conversation
The Starfield is Aporium’s 3d topic explorer made using the embeddings of 5800 philosophy excerpts styled to resemble a navigable galaxy. It utilizes UMAP for excerpt-placement and extracted excerpt metadata for thematic region labeling. Scroll adjusts zoom, right click pans, and left click orbits.Aporium is my solo effort to bring the wisdom of the great works of philosophy into a format that balances depth of analysis, ease of reading, and multi-author perspective. I started this project 8 mon
Show HN: ManimGX – Manim's API on a Rust/wgpu engine, for 3D videos in Python
Video as code took off with the Opus 5.5 release. People now make videos by writing code, with Remotion, HyperFrames and others. We wanted the same for 3D videos. You can use something like Blender, but it's heavy to install and slow to render. So we made ManimGX:- Lightweight: a 65–110 MB download, depending on the OS- Easy to install: pip install manimgx (Python 3.13+), with no system dependencies- Cross-platform: macOS, Windows and Linux, and even the browser via Pyodide and WebGPU- Blazin
Opus Core 1.2 is now available
A new version of the web management system I’ve been developing for those who believe that building for the web shouldn’t mean carrying unnecessary complexity.Opus Core was born out of a real need: to have a foundation of my own, with control over the code, freedom to develop, and an architecture that makes it possible to build solutions without imposing unnecessary tools and conventions.Version 1.2 is another step forward in that evolution. The goal isn’t to do everything for you. It’s to provid
